INDEPENDENT SOCIALIST TO RUN IN 2024 PROVINCIAL ELECTION DEMANDING TAXATION OF THE RICH, JUSTICE FOR ALL AND AN END TO WAR
COWICHAN VALLEY — It has been a dreadful year – genocide and war have dominated our world and many of us feel a genuine need to push back against the status quo responsible for so much misery and cruelty.
In that spirit a small group of us have gathered to build a campaign for the up coming Provincial Election. Eden Haythornthwaite has decided to run for MLA in the Cowichan Valley Electoral District as an Independent Socialist. We desperately need voice and action from the left to push back against the relentless demands of the rich and the powerful. We need to establish a campaign which speaks to our needs in community.
Our resources are usurped for the sake of profit for a very few. Our ability to challenge climate catastrophe and deep inequality is thwarted by those who are motivated only by money and privilege.
Eden is running on a platform which demands freedom and justice, the essentials of life, political rights for everyone and an end to war.
The means by which we can care for each other will come from taxing the rich and ending all corporate welfare. The wealth which ordinary workers have created over all the generations can and should be managed for the benefit of those who created the wealth in the first place. The best people to do this are the workers themselves.
It has been a long time coming. Now the crises provoked by our ruling class are overwhelming our lives. We can care for our kids and grandkids by fighting for their present and their future now - without compromise. In fact, it is the only path we can walk.
